The world famous Balmoral Park horse race track is a one-mile turf in Crete Illinois, Chicago. Illinois offers continual harness racing. It is situated on route 394, the Calurnet Expressway. Balmoral Park is known as an ecstasy for people who like to bet.

Way back in 1925 Lincolns Fields race course was constructed by Colonel Matt J. Winn. The oval shaped race track was enclosed with grass imported from Kentucky. Lincolns Fields became a busy pedigree racing facility from 1926. However in the year 1942 the race course had to be closed because of World War II restrictions. Benjamin Lindheimer who was the chief of horse racing at Washington Park founded the Balmoral Jockey Club which bought Lincolns Park in 1955. The name of the track was later replaced with Balmoral Park in the same year.

Balmoral Park has been used solely as a harness racecourse since 1991. Sporadic race meets were held throughout its earlier history. The one-mile track was added in 1989. The race track’s speed mark is 1:581.

Balmoral Park was regarded in 1991 as a privileged racing turf. Balmoral Park track became Chicago’s top racing venue in 1998. This feat was achieved when stake races were shifted from Sportsman’s Park to Balmoral Park.

A number of popular harness races are held at Balmoral Park. The highest total stake of $3.8 million on “Super Night” in the history of racing in Illinois was recorded in September 2000. Major races held at Balmoral Park are as follows, Crete Trotting Series, Champion on Ice Trotting Series, Big Dog Pacing Series, Plesac Trotting Series, Columbian Trot, American Nationals, Hanover Series and the Midwest Derby.
